and this is the result of two weeks of
tears, sweat, passion, lots of bad coffees, friendship, and dream!
i enjoyed every second of myself in CSU fresno-
it was, and is, hard to come back to reality-

everything was there.

Tommy Solomon

AKA Joseph Gordon Levitt. But I like to call him by his original introduction to the public as Tommy Solomon, Information Officer from 3rd Rock From the Sun. My brother and I always laughed at his character because he would obviously be given the lamest lines of all the main character, probably because that was the start of his career, and he was overshadowed by his co-stars John Lithgow. His lines were always not that funny, and his acting was forced so we always thought... poor Tommy, just because he's the youngest actor...

What a goober he was. Now look at him? What happened. His character in Inception was such a badass, so not like Tommy at all. Loved it! He;s a good actor. I've seen a couple of his other movies. And I still watch 3rd Rock, I think the humor is kinda cheesy, but SO FUNNY!

relationship

when you have a relationship with someone-
it is unavoidable to face hardship.. mistakes, dissapointment, or even perhaps hurtful feelings.
yet why do we still in the relationship?
Because it is full with unexpected surprises-
it gives hopes and dream to think about tomorrow-
at least we have each other, right?

having someone next you smiling at any stupid gag you could ever think of-
is the best feeling.

then-
you realize you don't have to be a millionaire-
that you don't have to be Johhny Depp
that you don't have to be most amazing person in the world-

but yourself.

I've just had a once in a lifetime conversation with my roommate... A lot has been explained and now I feel even worst about certain things... And I dissected a part of my life like I never had before... there's a lot on my mind, hopefully I can expel it soon, but I think I feel more comfortable with him than ever.

Be strong

Hopefully this blog doesn't die when school starts. Schedules appear frightfully booked this upcoming semester, I'm afraid for time's sake. The world likes to challenge you. It works against you if your life is too good and with you if you've already payed some suffering. If you're strong enough, you'll get by. I think now it is my time.

I was able to talk to Sue a little! I miss her... She's having loads of fun in her toy design class! Says it's like a combination of artist/engineers, and other creative minds. Hopefully she might post an update on the blog or something.

The annual Gilroy garlic festival is next week. Never been but I am going to go this year!

Division of the Nerds

Just like that we are temporarily split once again. Temporarily.

It's easy to remind myself but why does it feel so empty. I guess because this time it is I who will remain here and the other will be on an adventure.

Sue is off to Fresno State, enrolled in a two-week Toy Design class!!! How exciting, everyone is so happy for her, it's been a long time since she has been able to do something like this! We hope to hear from her on this blog with updates of her learnings and artwork!

I will miss her...

I am so taken back by all the wonderful days, nights, and adventures the duo has had! Ups and downs, but worth everything in the end... and the momentum keep piling! wow it's been so long since i posted last blog journal!
Kree and Sue are reunited-
and have been spending very much hours and days together since..
sometime I wonder-
is there really such thing as life long companion?
i never saw myself finding such thing-
but i see myself everyday i wish i could spend as many days just being with him.
today,
i was stressd for many personal reasons,
and kree reminded me of what i have in this country.
he is right.
i'm still a baby complaining more of happiness more of convenience..
when everyday becomes happy days,
i guess even little bit of stressed day is hard to bear.
in other words.. i guess i'm being spoiled by happiness.

our next student project is called "No Robots"
and my given role is to design a backroom.
it's a small scene and quick scene, but i really want to better!

Facing Death and A Laugh

TAR!!! (Trip Proposal)

If ever there is a chance to go to LA, one stop on the agenda should be the La Brea Tar Pits!

Above in the picture is at the Page Museum which features some of the specimens found and is right next door to the tar pits; the picture shows a collection of prehistoric dire wolf skulls.

The tar pits are prehistoric and world famous. It is an astonishing sight because it is literally a graveyard of perfectly preserved fossils and bones, complete skeletons of animals that have lived over the course of millions of years. For paleontologist, this is like finding gold, because finding complete skeleton fossils is EXTREMELY RARE. To biologist, the tar pits is treasure chest of animals from prehistoric times to the present and act as a physical recording of bones that support the theory of evolution. The tar pits have encased hundreds of species including mammoths, saber-tooth tigers, wolves, insects, and birds. Only one human skeleton has ever been discovered, a showcase of just how little time we've walked the planet.

And in case you didn't know, the tar is still there and active!

Alaska Part 3: Yukon Trail

Last post of Alaska stuff...

The Yukon Trail game came free with our first home computer back in 1994. For a while, it was the only game my brother and I could play; we did so a lot. The game is like Oregon Trail but about the Klondike Gold Rush in 1896-99. In the game you stop at a town named Skagway. When we found out we were actually going there, we got really excited, and we thought it was funny that we knew the city already, but from a game!

Skagway was one of the port cities that one could stop on their way to the Klondike. The name comes from the Tlingit word "skagua" menaing "origin of the north wind" the north winds pass through the mountains. The city was used as a point to replenish supplies and food before heading on the treacherous White Pass trail. During the peak of the gold rush, the population boomed and prospered with many types of businesses including restaurants, prostitution, and gang activity. Today the population is only 800.

You can meet this character in the game. He's a bad guy!

Turns out he's the real deal, the most well-known character in Skagway! He basically took over Skagway during the gold rush and became the leader of an organized gang and con men. Ex: he set up telegraph lines, charging stampeders wanting to contact their families, the lines would lead to one of his men who sent back fake responses.

So it was fun reliving our gaming past. Of course we played it again as soon as we got home.

Alaska Part 2: My Souvenir

I wanna go back to my sugarbean... I really do...

This is lame I guess, but there are so many people you are stuck with on a cruise ship for 10 days that capturing their photo for the sake of my bad memory is all that I wanted. Most people you only meet once and then forget about cause nothing really stood out, but on occasion you will run into somebody more than once and those are the people that usually have something interesting to say... and so here is my small collection.

I asked if I could take this picture. This is Professor Yang, he is professor to a Martial Arts History class. He helps run a studio near Palo Alto that is the only martial arts studio certified by the Xiaolin Temple in China. I had dinner with him a few days later and found all this out. His favorite thing to talk about is how India tries to take credit for the birth of Asian martial arts.

I never actually talked to this man, but I saw him almost everyday at the same table, either smoking alone of with his wife. He looked so badass with his cigarettes and his rocky stature that I decided to snag a photo of him one day... and of course he wasn't hard to find.

Lunch: "So what school do you go to?" "San Jose State." "Oh, what are you studying." "Animation/Illustration." "Our daughter works at San Jose State, in the art department." "Oh really!? What's her name?" "Hmmmm, well tell us if you know this one... Her name is Elizabeth Briggs." "WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!????"

I ran into this lady so much, that I just had to take a photo of her. When I asked, she started shying up, saying "Why do you want a picture of a weird person?" She is an advent trader of stuff and probably the most flashy character on board. That panda hat she traded for an elephant hat because she is a SF Giants fan and her favorite player is Sandoval, nickname: Kung-Fu Panda.

He hella looks like Nikita! Turns out he is from Russia and is sailing for 40 days with his girlfriend; they are both dancers for the ship.



Okay so this was the souvenir of my trip, an exchange between two people that will probably never meet again. This is about Stephanie, a little girl I met on the ship the first day. I was drawing in the lobby, looking for things to sketch, and her and her mother walked by and she waved at me . I waved back. Her mother and her came up to me to look at my drawings, to their dismay I had only one page of sketches.

I kept seeing them after that and she was so cute, and always waved at me. I tried to get a picture of her waving, but always came out blurry.

One night, I went to the lounge to watch a band perform and I saw little Stephanie dancing with this boy and everyone was laughing and pointing because it was super cute. I decided to draw them and before I left, I showed the drawing to her parents.
From that day on, every time I ran into them they would always say hi and talk to me about stuff. I even had lunch with the family but each time, I would never have the camera dammit!
It wasn't until the final day that her father nervously asked if he could buy my sketch. I was somewhat surprised, but I decided to just give it to them. I literally ripped it out of my sketchbook and wrote a little message on the back. Her father said he was going to laminate and frame it.

And then right before I left the ship, I got my souvenir! I guess it sounds creepy now that I think of it, but it really isn't. It's weird to think that sketch is with some people who I will never see again and I wonder what little Stephanie will think of it growing up. Who knows though, I ran into my teacher's parents, maybe our paths will cross again.

PS. I saw "Moon Chaser" and was very impressed! That's so awesome it's going to Ottawa! Everyone did so well!

Now a vistor's center, the Arctic Brotherhouse was built in 1899. The frat house looks EXACTLY as it did over 110 years ago! Skagway, my favorite city.

So Alaska really is the last frontier. Being the newest and largest state, equipped with the some of the most extreme climate conditions on Earth, most of the land is untouched by human activity and the government wishes to keep it that way. Besides, it's not really ideal conditions for people to live, but it hasn't stopped some, including the legendary Haida and Tlingit Indians. I only visited a tiny portion of Alaska. The parts I saw (apart from the glacier) look very similar to Northern California. Spruce trees lining mountain tops with snowy caps and clear water; in other words, nothing I've never seen before. But it does feel different. The Alaskan air is almost 100% natural and construction is limited due to the challenging climate; Juneau can only be entered via boat or plane. It's a place where nature dominates humanity; in a way, it is almost like looking into the past, how it probably looked thousands of years ago. Beautiful by all means.
